The Wedding Archive: a frame-accurate love letter

How we turn a shoebox of wedding VHS, Mini DV and Super 8 reels into a 3–45 minute film couples can keep forever.

The Wedding Archive: a frame-accurate love letter

Every wedding package begins with a kit. We label each reel by date and ceremony, capture 1:1 over FireWire, then colour-grade for a warm archival tone. The result is a highlight edit — 3 to 45 minutes — delivered on USB, disc and a private gallery.

Why we don't just "rip" it

A wedding recording is the one tape people will actually re-watch in twenty years, so we treat it like film, not data. Every reel is inspected for mould and binder breakdown before it goes near a deck. Tapes that have gone sticky-shed are baked first — a gentle, low-heat process that temporarily re-bonds the coating so the oxide transfers cleanly instead of shredding.

The capture

  • Mini DV & Digital8 — frame-accurate FireWire clone, no re-encoding loss.
  • VHS & S-VHS — timebase-corrected playback into a lossless intermediary.
  • Super 8 & 8mm film — frame-by-frame optical scan at 2K.
The moment a father sees his own parents on a phone screen, thirty years after the wedding, is the whole point of this work.

The edit

From the raw transfer we build a 3–45 minute highlight reel — the vows, the first dance, the bits that matter — colour-graded to a warm, filmic tone that flatters old camcorder footage. You get the full-length archive too, untouched, so nothing is lost. Two to four weeks, door to door.

Got a shoebox of tapes waiting to be rescued?

Send them to the studio and we'll digitise every frame before the magnetic decay wins.
